President Petro spoke of those who protest against him, what did he tell them?

This September 26, a group of Colombians came out to express their dissatisfaction with the 51 days that Gustavo Petro has been in power. The tax reform, the eventual pension reform and various government decisions are the cause of citizen discomfort in various parts of the country. President Petro himself referred to the protest and delivered the first balance sheet.

“Your right to express yourself will always be respected. But we will always have the right to report when misinformed. In general, the marches did not have violence”, President Petro said around 2:15 in the afternoon on Monday.

Medellín, Bucaramanga, Cali and Bogotá were some of the cities that brought together the citizen demonstration. Even in Miami, Orlando and New York (United States) they had their replicas of these protests.

Pierre Onzaga, one of the organizers of the social mobilization, had stated that the marches are promoted by citizens without a flag or label different from the “well-being of Colombia”.

“Let’s say no to the shady deals with Venezuela, to the health reform, to the subsidies for criminals, to the tax reform, to the corruption that the left represents,” said Congressman Polo Polo before going out to protest.

Enteresis: Why and where did the first protests against the Petro government take place?

This is the second time that President Petro refers to the first national mobilization that took place against him. During his tour of the United States, he assured that his opponents have every right to march, however, he was emphatic in emphasizing that “The problem is that they caused the problem.”

“They let Ecopetrol buy, import and make gasoline at international oil prices, expensive, in times of high prices, and sell at half its value without any mechanism to compensate for that loss of profits: a real subsidy to the gasoline consumer that now It’s time to redo because Ecopetrol’s profits are the source to finance education and public health”, argued the president.

President Petro’s agenda this September 26 was marked by his trip to Cúcuta to reopen the border with Venezuela. This Monday he was also in an economic council and will close the day with a meeting with his ministers.
