President Yoon Seok-yeol expressed his condolences to the passing of former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev and offered condolences to the bereaved family.
The presidential office said, “President Yoon sent a condolence message to the deceased’s daughter, Irina Virganskaya Gorbachev, vice president of the Foundation.”
In the Chojeon, President Yoon said, “The deceased was a leader who ended the Cold War era of confrontation and conflict, brought reconciliation and peace, and a pioneer who laid a solid framework for friendly and cooperative relations between Korea and Russia.”
“We will remember and protect the legacy of the deceased’s determination and leadership, freedom and peace for a long time,” he said.
