Presidential 2022: “The hardest part begins now for Emmanuel Macron”

For Vincent Laborderie, political scientist at UCLouvain, it seems doubtful that there is sufficient momentum on the side of Emmanuel Macron to win the legislative elections.

A few days after the results of the second round, can we say that France is more divided than ever? We have the impression of having witnessed a very anti-Macron vote on the one hand and an anti-Le Pen mobilization on the other. How do you perceive these results?

“This is indeed what happened: a rejection vote against rejection. One figure is interesting: among E. Macron’s voters in the 2nd round, 42% said they had voted for him to block the far right against 58% because they thought they would make a good president. We can therefore see that the mobilization against the far right is still working and that the 58% of Macron does not concern his project or his person. point of view, it is an unprecedented presidential election. France is divided, but not only into two camps. There are also abstainers and left-wing voters who were not represented in the second round.
