The first solar boreholes built as part of the presidential “water for all” program were inaugurated in the village of Wanvoussé in the commune of Loumbila on Tuesday, March 21, 2023.

Water now flows in the village of Wanvoussé in the commune of Loumbila, in the Central Plateau region. 2 solar boreholes were officially inaugurated there by a government delegation on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. The first consists of a borehole with a production capacity of 3m3/h, a 10 thousand liter polytank surmounted by 3 plates solar and 4 taps. As for the 2nd borehole with a capacity of 5m3/h, it is coupled with a polytank of 10,000 liters, 3 taps and a drinking trough for the animals. The delegation was made up of the Minister of Environment, Energy, Water and Sanitation, Augustin Kaboré and his counterpart of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo.

The local authorities, headed by the governor of the Central Plateau region, Sy Assetou Traoré and the president of the special delegation of the municipality of Loumbila, also wanted to share the joy of the population of Wanvoussé. Despite the sun at its zenith, women, men and children mobilized to show their joy. Between youyous and songs, the women were obviously the happiest of the day. ” It is a chance ! We had water and it does not cut. We thank the government for this gift. We have set up an office and launched contributions so that we can provide repairs in the event of cuts,” she said. The chairman of the Village Development Council (CVD), as well as the representative of the local chief, in turn conveyed their gratitude to the government for the construction of this drinking water supply system in their village. “Before, our wives negotiated with the owners of nearby farms, but now all that is a thing of the past. These boreholes relieve our women of the drudgery of water and we thank the government,” said CVD President Hamado Tiendrebéogo.

A water battle launched

For the Minister in charge of water, the symbolic delivery of the borehole to the inhabitants of Wanvoussé is part of the vast presidential program “drinking water for all” of the President of the Transition, Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traore. “This program must cover the whole of Burkina Faso and pursues 3 major objectives: to provide the liberated villages with drinking water, to strengthen access to drinking water for the entire population and in particular the vulnerable populations and to support the liberated villages to their return to the local economy,” he explained. According to Minister Kaboré, the ambition of this program is to offer by December 31, 2023, 500 solar boreholes to vulnerable populations across the 13 regions. “It is therefore truly a battle for water that is engaged alongside the military campaign to support internally displaced persons and each Burkinabè so that access to drinking water no longer constitutes an obstacle to their socio-economic development” , did he declare. Augustin Kaboré invited, on behalf of the President of the Transition, the Burkinabè from inside and outside, economic operators, development partners to invest in boosting this service of access to drinking water for all.
