It was in December 2007, Editions Autre launched their quarterly, “Le Mook”. The following month, the magazine “XXI” entered the niche of narrative journalism, democratizing through its success the format of these quarterly magazines distributed in bookstores, or “mooks”, a contraction of “magazine” and “book”.

Sixteen years later, mooks have found their place in bookstores, but their economic balance is delicate, the increase in the cost of paper last year having further complicated the equation. The setbacks of “XXI” and the photography magazine “6Mois”, whose joint publishing company, Quatre, is in receivership and could be taken over by Indigo Publications, are the best illustration of this.
