published in the JO Senate of 03/23/2023 – page 1959

Mr. Jean-Nol Gurini draws the attention of the Minister of Health and Prevention to the constant increase in overweight and obesity.

A person is considered overweight when their body mass index (BMI, ratio of mass in kilograms divided by height, in meters, squared) exceeds 25; From a BMI of 30, we speak of obesity.

In France, studies follow one another to sadly confirm that obesity is a chronic disease of pandemic evolution.

The latest, the initiative of the League against Obesity, coordinated by researchers from the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) and the University Hospital Center of Montpellier, was published in February 2023 in the journal Journal of clinical medicine. It confirms the seriousness of the problem, stressing that 47.3% of French adults are obese or overweight and that the number of obese young people (18-24 years) has quadrupled in twenty years.

However, obesity is an important risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and certain cancers.

This is why he asks her how to better prevent and better treat overweight and obesity, in order to finally reverse these alarming trends.

Awaiting response from the Ministry of Health and Prevention.
