The TCS launches a petrol price comparator in Switzerland
The TCS will put online on Monday a site and an application to compare gasoline prices in Swiss service stations.
The Swiss Touring Club (TCS) is launching a new participatory fuel price comparator. More than 25,000 entries have already been entered. “We found price differences of up to 30 cents per liter there,” says TCS director Jürg Wittwer.
To make a detour to a cheaper gas station worthwhile, the rule of “fives” applies, explains Jürg Wittwer in an interview with “SonntagsBlick”. “A price drop of 5 cents per liter is only worthwhile if the detour is a maximum of 5 kilometers per trip and if the tank is at least 50 litres”.
Six months of development
According to “Le Matin Dimanche”, which also relayed the information, the TCS will put a site and an application online on Monday. The platform will be free and open to everyone. It could happen that the indications are not always up to date at remote service stations, warns the director of the TCS. “But in densely populated areas, we will be able to cover prices very quickly.”
The development of the comparator lasted six months. The TCS had already floated the idea before the subject became the subject of political debate. “If the Confederation in turn launches a comparison tool, then we will see,” concludes Jürg Wittwer.
