Lausanne: Night Pride attracted more than 4,000 people
The city had not hosted a Pride for more than 15 years.
More than 4,000 activists marched late Saturday afternoon in Lausanne during the first night Pride organized in Switzerland. The queer, feminist, anti-racist, environmentalist and anti-capitalist demonstration took place without incident and in a festive atmosphere.
Between dance and slogans, the colorful procession crossed the city under a beating sun, moving from Milan Park to Place de la Riponne. “We are queer, proud and not ready to shut up,” proclaimed the participants, around 4,000 according to the Lausanne police, 8,000 according to the organizers.
“Solidarity with queers around the world”. “A solution, revolution”, chanted the activists who want to put an end to the system in place, considering it “eroded by capitalism”.
Fifteen years without pride
The event was organized by the Lausanne collective Pride de Nuit. The City had not hosted a pride since 2006, recalled Seb Zürcher, member of the collective, to Keystone-ATS.
Inspired by the Night Prides born in Paris in 2015 and which have spread to Europe, the mobilization aims to revive the spirit of the first Prides and to fight against the “rainbow washing”, often observed, especially in June the month prides. Either a “radical rather than commercial and depoliticized” demonstration, underlines Seb Zürcher.
Manifest
“We wanted an inclusive event, which leaves no one behind and which is not just for those who can afford it,” explained Pauline, a member of the collective. It is also about making the realities and precariousness of queers visible. Claiming the same rights for all is all the more important since at present nothing seems to be eternally acquired, she adds, referring to the question of abortion in the United States.
Distributed during the parade, the night Pride manifesto also lists a large number of demands on self-determination, precariousness, the world of work, health, internationalism and anti-imperialism. It has been signed by more than 25 organizations such as VoGay, the Feminist Strike, the Swiss Lesbian Organization (LOS) or the Vaud and Geneva Climate Strike.
