Remembrance Day is a day of remembrance observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of World War I to honor service members who have died in the line of duty. In the United States there is Veterans Day. Prince Harry himself served in the military and twice in Afghanistan.
The 38-year-old and his wife, Duchess Meghan (41), also published a message on the website of their charity organization Archewell: “On this Veterans Day and Remembrance Day we honor soldiers around the world.” These “brave men and women and their families have made tremendous sacrifices,” the statement said. They added, “We are proud to partner with so many organizations that support veterans and military families.”
“I know the pain and the sadness”
Prince Harry also dedicated emotional lines to children of military personnel who have to cope with the death of a parent. On what is known as Remembrance Sunday, the Duke of Sussex wrote a letter to Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a British charity. Prince Harry, who lost his mother Princess Diana (1961-1997) as a child, said: “We have a connection even though we’ve never met because we lost a parent. I know the pain and sadness that deal with the loss, first hand, and wants you to know you are not alone.”
He added, “While dark feelings will arise today as we pay tribute to heroes like your mother and father, I hope you find comfort and strength in knowing that their love for you lives on and shines on.” The community and talking about the grief helped him, said Prince Harry, and referred to the “great people” of the charity organization: “We all know that some days are harder than others, but together these days are made easier. “
