After eight years of marriage between Prince Leka and Princess Elia, the Albanian royal family has announced that the couple has separated. The statement can be found on the The prince’s Instagram account.
Prince Leka (41) and Princess Elia (40) have a daughter, Geraldine (3).
The statement reads: “Since the marriage has lost its function, they have found a way to dissolve it by mutual consent by initiating the necessary legal procedures. “Despite his belief in the family institution, Prince Leka believes that the values of mutual respect and understanding will form the basis for the relationship in its continuity.”
“Happy and safe life for Geraldine”
The focus of the married couple is clearly on their daughter: “Geraldine’s mental and physical well-being remains the focus. Prince Leka is committed to ensuring a happy and safe life for Geraldine. “In addition, he will not make any further statements or comments and would like to ask that his privacy be respected in this matter,” the post continues.
