The state should legislate on ‘bodycams’ in prison
The cameras, carried by the guards, have been used for a year without any specific legal basis.
The Township will not remove bodycams in Geneva prisons, but should anchor their use in law. As the guards’ union (UPCP) denounced, these on-board cameras – worn by guards – have been used in prisons for more than a year without any specific legal basis. An opinion issued by the Data Protection Officer (PPDT) seems to have tipped the scales.
