Prison project announced in Tarazá to mitigate overcrowding in police stations in Bajo Cauca

The Government of Antioquia has announced an important project in Tarazá that seeks to mitigate the problem of overcrowding in the police stations of the Bajo Cauca Subregion of Antioquia.

This is the construction of a transitional center for unionized workers in the municipality of Tarazá, an initiative that has the financial support of the United States Government, which has invested 1.5 million dollars in this cause.

As announced by Luis Eduardo Martínez, Secretary of Security of Antioquia, this prison will relieve overcrowding in police stations, allowing agents to focus on their work of guaranteeing citizen security.

This measure is part of an effort to strengthen security and rural justice in the region.

The project was socialized at a meeting in Medellín, which had the participation of the Government of Antioquia

Also the mayors of Bajo Cauca, Antioquia and representatives of the Anti-Drug Affairs and Law Enforcement Section of the US Government, among other institutions.

Paula Polo, Peace Director of the Secretariat of Institutional Affairs, Peace and Nonviolence, highlighted the importance of accompanying the construction of the prison with other projects, such as the replacement of crops for illicit use.

This strategy seeks to generate economic alternatives in a region affected by illicit economies.

The United States Government hopes that this investment will contribute to improving security and guaranteeing the human rights of people deprived of liberty in the Bajo Cauca region of Antioquia.

This initiative seeks not only to alleviate overcrowding in police stations, but also to provide decent conditions to those in state custody.
