Professor Laurindo Viera shot dead – news

Another episode of massacre carried out by unidentified individuals stains the Patriota neighborhood, in Luanda. This time, the victim is the renowned sociologist and professor Laurindo Vieira, who, yesterday afternoon, January 11th, was surprised by two individuals who shot him.

Reports from a video circulated on social media show that the teacher had been surprised by two young people on board a motorbike, supposedly after withdrawing large sums of valuables from a nearby bank. What can be described in the video, just under 30 seconds long, is that Professor Laurindo was sprawled on the ground, bloodied, near his vehicle, while some citizens tried to understand what happened so they could help him.

The professor tried to move, but he had lost movement in his lower limbs, as the volume of blood suggested that he had been shot in this region. The main street of Patriota has numerous banking units and it is in this same place that, in December 2023, there was a robbery with firearms fired at a driver who was driving a car carrying large sums of money and a passerby who decided to immobilize one of the robbers.

So far, a month after the incident, these robbers have not been arrested and yesterday, on the same street, criminals — in the same number —, accompanied by a motorbike, shot at professor Laurindo Vieira. Laurindo Vieira was born in Dange-Quitexe, Uíge province.

He is a sociologist, with a degree and master’s degree in Education Sciences from the University of Porto. He is the author of the book “Angola – The ideological dimension of education 1975-1992”, and current rector of the Gregório Semedo University, having worked at ISCED and the Institute of Social Service.

He was often called upon to provide his knowledge on the various problems that affect our society, in the media, public institutions, schools, among others. Yesterday, the newspaper OPAÍS contacted the SIC-Geral spokesperson, Manuel Halaiwa, to provide us with more details about this occurrence, and we were informed that a team from the Criminal Investigation Service was on site working and that, in In the near future, it will provide information to the press.
