Project “Promotion of Sustainable Tourism”

To date, Kolna Nemchiw brings together more than 15 walking clubs in 12 governorates in Tunisia and one club in Algeria which have set up thematic routes.

Created in 2017, Kolna Nemchiw is an association that encourages the practice of walking, everywhere in Tunisia. It now has more than 15 clubs (from Bizerte to Gabès) and brings together under its brand more than 3,500 practitioners. Apart from the daily walks organized by each club in its region, Kolna Nemchiw organizes excursions, hikes and big walks (where all the clubs participate), this in addition to participation in sporting events and actions social and environmental. In a short time, the concept quickly took off and several walking groups were founded in Greater Tunis, but also in other regions of Tunisia (Nabeul, Bizerte, Sfax, Monastir, Sousse and Siliana).

Treasure of Carthage

In 2021, the association launched the “Trésor de Carthage” project, supported by the “Promotion of Sustainable Tourism” project, which is a joint action of the European Union in Tunisia within the framework of the “Tounes Wijhetouna” program ” and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ), implemented by GIZ Tunisia in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts and the Ministry of Culture . The overall objective of the ”Tounes Wijhetouna” program is to contribute to the sustainable and inclusive economic development of Tunisia.

For this alternative tourism project, three walking events entitled ”Carthaginian Walk” were organized. Thanks to this project, hundreds of participants were able to discover the hidden treasures of Carthage and visited the Roman Theatre, the Punic ports, the Magon district, the Antonine baths, the Basilica Damous El Karita, the cisterns of El Maalga , the Amphitheatre, the Saint-Louis Cathedral, the Hill of Carthage and the Roman Villas.

During the 3e Carthaginian march, organized on June 5, 2022, the Didon de Carthage association presented the new Dourbia mobile application, supported by the “Promotion of sustainable tourism” project. It is, in fact, a historical GPS that aims to create thematic and intelligent routes to offer visitors a new experience of visiting archaeological sites, enriched by multimedia content. At the same time, a cleanliness campaign in Carthage was organized by the Kolna Nemchiw association, in collaboration with the municipality of Carthage and the Agency for Heritage Development and Cultural Promotion (Amvppc), a supported event, again, through the Promotion of Sustainable Tourism project.

3e Great march of Bizerte

Today, after the success of the ”Treasure of Carthage” project, during which three Carthaginian Marches were organized, the Kolna Nemchiw association intends to organize, on June 19, 2022, the 3e Grande marche de Bizerte which provides for a rich program with visits, discoveries of atypical places, games, workshops… This action is still part of the Promotion of sustainable tourism project which represents the component ”Diversification and strengthening of the quality of the tourist offer” of ”Tounes Wijhetouna”. It is therefore a support program for the diversification of tourism, the development of crafts and design value chains and the promotion of cultural heritage, which aims to diversify the Tunisian tourist offer, by creating synergies between the tourism, crafts, local products and cultural heritage sectors. The 3e Grande marche de Bizerte will therefore be composed of different activities offered by the actors of the region: cultural outings, immersive experiences, traditional dance, street-food festivals, cooking classes, alternative accommodation, traditional dishes, local products…
