Pros & cons tomorrow at 10:15 p.m. on PULS 4: Covid rules under scrutiny – has politics failed?

Ralph Schallmeiner and Gerhard Kaniak, Franz Allerberger, Norbert Nowotny and Eva Spreitzhofer as well as Hendrik Streeck will discuss.

Vienna (OTS) For large parts of the population, Corona is a thing of the past and politicians also want to return to normal. But which Covid rules were unnecessary? And are those responsible repeating the mistakes of previous years? Ralph Schallmeiner and Gerhard Kaniak, Franz Allerberger, Norbert Nowotny and Eva Spreitzhofer as well as Hendrik Streeck discuss this in pros and cons.

Three years after the first Covid 19 diagnosis in Austria, the mask requirement will also fall on March 1 in Vienna – the federal state with the strictest corona rules. Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) and Minister of Health John Rauch (The Greens) have also called on the population to engage in a reconciliation process. In doing so, the government also wants to whitewash its own – politically highly controversial – decisions such as compulsory vaccination or the lockdown for the unvaccinated. “We listened to experts, now experts should explain why they came to this decision,” says Nehammer, arousing the displeasure of many experts from the Corona Taskforce.

At the same time, Covid is increasing the number of infections. In Vienna alone, more than 23,000 people are currently infected. Doctors warn against reducing corona monitoring and call for the protection of the vulnerable. Because the current balance of the pandemic in Austria can be estimated at 22,000 Covid deaths and almost six million laboratory-confirmed corona infections.

Were compulsory vaccinations and exit restrictions actually necessary? Do we have the Covid viruses under control now? And what lessons for the future are politicians drawing from the pandemic?
