The beautiful days are approaching Toulouse. And in the sights of the town hall, always the same: tiger mosquitoes. The black spot of the Pink City.

Since 2015, their number has continued to grow in Haute-Garonne. These flying insects are the fear of the entire department and health professionals, since female tiger mosquitoes can carry with them Dengue, Chikingunya and Zika viruses.

500 mosquito traps purchased by the town hall

This year, the Toulouse town hall is investing 15 000 € in the fight against tiger mosquitoes. 500 nest traps, mimicking water points for females to lay eggs, will therefore be distributed in the most affected and at-risk areas of the Pink City. These are the same traps as those installed at the Prairie des Filters last year, the famous BG Gat from the Biogents brand.

The north of Toulouse concerned

Residents of the Minimes, Barrière de Paris, Ponts Jumeaux, La Vache, Raisin, Fondeyre, Borderouge, Trois Cocus, Paleficat, Grand-Selve, Les Isards and Croix Daurade districts will be able to request their trap free, from mid-April 2024.

Free distribution, on file

You will need to register with the town hall in filing a file downloadable on the City of Toulouse website and providing proof of domicile. First come, first served.

Only one nest trap will be distributed per household and must be returned at the end of the experiment. Distribution will begin in May. The town hall’s Animal Center will remain available to local residents throughout the experience to ensure that the traps are working properly.
