2024-04-16 08:52:00

AI-generated deepfake has been a problem for months and inevitably, scammers do not hesitate to use familiar faces to scam Internet users. Among the targets, we find Cyprien, 14.5 million subscribers on YouTube, who addresses the subject in his latest video of April 13.

Cyprien denounces the misappropriation of his image by AI

“The famous YouTuber and actor Cyprien Iov has created a new mobile application already downloaded by several thousand French people”, announces Anne-Claire Coudray on the 8 p.m. television news on TF1. The application allows “everyone” to win “thousands of euros every day” thanks to the generosity of Cyprien who wishes “helping people”. The videographer is clear: his application will “increase” your income.

Except that the application does not exist and that Cyprien has never been interviewed by TF1. This is a very elaborate, AI-generated deepfake that you may have seen on social media. A scam, as he explains in a video in the form of a short film.

In 5th position in trends on YouTube with almost 2 million views at the time of writing, Cyprien’s video addresses the consequences of AI on his personal life, subscribers who believe the false videos in which he makes comments controversies about the impact that this technology has on the work of its employees.

Speaking to BFMTV, Cyprien admits that until now, deepfakes were crude and more amusing than anything else. But since the advent of AI, “it took a different turn”. The videographer may report these fake videos of himself to Meta, for example, but nothing changes. As for fake apps, their removal often takes “several days” while “nothing is done to prevent the publication of this content upstream”.

Cyprien files a complaint against the scammers

Faced with the phenomenon, Cyprien asks his subscribers: “Do not fall into the trap”. A complaint was filed against the people who usurped his identity, but according to the videographer, “the problem is that they are abroad”. The creator promises his community to keep them informed even if “it may take a while”.

Cyprien joins the many celebrities on the French-speaking Web, such as Nota Bene or Feldup, who complain about the misappropriation of their image and their voice without their authorization for the purposes of fraud. Scammers also attack stars like Guillaume Canet or Kylian Mbappé.
