In Picardy Wallonia, the Onem restructuring plan, currently on the table, provides for the relocation of unemployment offices from Tournai and Mouscron to Mons. The conference of mayors and elected officials of Wapi protests against this umpteenth attack on public services.
Under the chairmanship of Paul-Olivier Delannois, mayor of Tournai, the conference of mayors and elected representatives of Picardy Wallonia met urgently on Saturday.
If Onem wants to be reassuring, through a press release which denies the noises of closure, the office however evokes the need for a restructuring guided by budgetary restrictions. The elected representatives of Picardy Wallonia are calling for maximum clarity on the situation as soon as possible.
While Onem justifies its position by the need to adapt to new work organizations since the Covid crisis, the elected representatives of Picardy Wallonia consider that this can in no way be done to the detriment of service to citizens. They judge this situation all the more “unacceptable“that she touches with full force”an already weakened public“.
Elected officials point in particular to an undermining of access to public services, access already made complicated by greatly reduced hours, a “blatant lack of consideration“for the staff in place, a lack of knowledge of the specificities of Picardy Wallonia, the negative impacts on the local economy and finally increased pressure on public social action centres.
Faced with this situation, the Bureau of the Conference of Mayors and Territorial Elected Representatives of Wapi wishes to show its complete and total solidarity with the staff of the headquarters of Tournai and Mouscron and pleads for the maintenance of the unemployment offices of the Onem in the territory of the Wapi.
