Protests of anger after the death of migrants in Melilla

Thousands of people gathered this Friday in Madrid, Barcelona and Morocco to protest once morest the deaths of 23 migrants last week (June 24).

2,000 people, mostly from black Africa, had then tried to cross the barrier between Morocco and the Spanish enclave of Melilla.

Nicole Ndongala, General Manager of the Karibu Association: “We have seen how Africans trying to find a better life have been ruthlessly murdered. It’s as if the lives of human beings don’t matter, especially those of the black race. The Moroccan and Spanish governments are both to blame, as we can clearly see the hypocrisy that exists in this world.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez says Madrid will offer ‘full collaboration’ with Spanish and Moroccan investigations.

His comments follow the UN’s denunciation of the excessive use of force by border authorities, a brutality they describe as “unacceptable”.
