Proxy Delhaize Fire: Photovoltaic Panels and Battery Safety Report

2023-12-28 14:54:41

An electric battery fire broke out on Wednesday morning in a storage room at Proxy Delhaize in Braives, near Hannut. They were connected to photovoltaic panels installed on the roof of the store and unexplainedly caught fire. For the firefighters, this type of intervention is a first. We had to manage a delicate situation without any real training.

The store manager invested 3 months ago in the installation of photovoltaic panels, batteries to store energy and an ammonia refrigeration plant. A system that allows him to reduce his energy consumption by 70%, making his business one of the least energy-intensive in Belgium.

Today, even if the damage is limited to the batteries, nothing is operational anymore.
