Psychiatric Specialists Discuss Mental Health: Recent Developments, Illness, Addiction, and Medications

Psychiatric specialists discuss a number of issues related to mental health, including recent developments in psychiatry, mental illnesses and their link to violence and crime, the effects of alcohol addiction on mental and physical health, the difference between psychosis resulting from drug abuse and schizophrenia, psychiatric medications and their interactions, and skills for dealing with mentally ill patients.
This comes as part of a scientific symposium, organized by the Eradah and Mental Health Complex in Riyadh (one of the components of the Third Riyadh Health Cluster) to celebrate World Mental Health Day 2023 AD, which comes under the slogan “Mental health is a universal human right.”
The activities also include an exhibition, in which 13 agencies concerned with providing mental health services participate, in addition to implementing a number of awareness programs in cooperation with governmental and private agencies targeting employees of these agencies, and aiming to spread awareness and education about mental health, in a way that contributes to strengthening it in society, as well as exchanging experiences. Among those concerned to develop the services provided in this field.
The Acting Executive Director of the Complex, Dr. Muhammad bin Mushabab Al-Ahmari, revealed that a number of services were provided to the Complex’s beneficiaries during the past nine months of this year, the number of which reached (161,806) services, ranging from therapeutic, rehabilitative, and preventive.
Dr. explained. Al-Ahmari said that the number of services provided in the Ambulance and Emergency Department reached (31,138) services, while (65,730) services were provided in the outpatient clinics, including (6,244) virtual clinics that were provided through the Communicative Medicine Department, and (4,488) hypnotic services were provided in the internal departments and at home. Halfway through, the number of services provided to home mental health care patients reached (5,191) services for patients in their homes, and (16,406) social services were provided to beneficiaries of the complex’s services and their families, and (6,009) psychological services were provided.
He added: The services included providing (1,313) services to aftercare beneficiaries, and providing (13,621) rehabilitation services to beneficiaries of medical rehabilitation and activities, in addition to providing family guidance and counseling services, which amounted to (5,230) consultations. The statistics also included providing education services and responding to beneficiaries’ inquiries through social networking sites, specifically through the (X) application, and the number of services reached (3452), while the complex issued (3174) medical reports, and the number of facilitation services for the elderly and people with special needs reached (14368) service.
Dr. Muhammad Al-Ahmari stressed that the Irada Complex in Riyadh is keen to implement many continuous improvement programs, which aim to enable the psychological patient in any category of society to obtain the service he deserves and needs, through medical and nursing care, psychological, social and rehabilitative services, and enhancing support. The family, which contributes to improving the level of health, reducing the consequences of contracting this disease, and even helping the patient to return to society in a better condition.
