This Tuesday afternoon, a 22-year-old man jumped into the Río de La Plata in Madero Port after he dropped his backpack in the water. Those present in the area decided to call 911 after seeing that the subject did not return to the surface after launching from Dock 3.
The event occurred around 7:00 p.m. and they sent the “staff from the City Fire Department Special Rescue Group (GER), which collaborated with the Argentine Naval Prefecture” in order to rescue the young man. Neighborhood 1E of the City Police, who spoke with a friend of the victim. The witness reported that “They were chatting next to the railing of the Villaflor bridge, when their partner dropped his backpack into the water of Dock 3.”
The report details: “He went down a ladder on the side and jumped into the river to look for his belongings but disappeared from the surface, until Prefecture staff found the lifeless body around 10 p.m.“. In the case, the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office 54 intervenes, in charge of Dr. Belloqui, secretary of Dr. Pérez Boso.
The moments after the tragedy
A witness present in Puerto Madero recorded with his cell phone the moments after the young man jumped into the river to retrieve his backpack. At that moment, two officers approached the side where the subject had been last seen.
“We will have to call the fire brigade,” said one of them. Immediately afterwards, whoever was filming pointed to the place where the young man’s backpack could be seen floating. “There is the backpack. That thing you see floating. And from here, where you are… from here the shot was fired”reported.

The Twitter user filmed the arrival of the firefighters and SAME in that area of Puerto Madero, who after getting out of the vehicles coordinated the recognition of the place and proceeded to search for the 22-year-old.

Approximately an hour later, a boat with two rescuers on board began to cross the river to find the whereabouts of the subject. As the witness continued filming, he is heard saying to a person “That’s it, crazy.” “No, You do not know”, answered another. The first insisted again: “That’s it… a lot of time has passed.”
The last video shared by the user @leonel_pimoVT shows that the police and rescuers found part of the victim’s belongings, among them, black sneakers with white socks inside. An officer asked a friend of the protagonist of the tragic event if they were his, to which the young man answered in the affirmative.
Then, on his Twitter account, the boy who filmed the entire sequence regretted not being able to help the 22-year-old who drowned.
