Ahmedabad: After defeating Gujarat Titans by three wickets, Punjab Kings achieved a rare feat in Indian Premier League Twenty20 cricket.

Punjab holds the record of being the team that has chased down 200 runs the most times in the IPL. Punjab have chased 200 runs six times. Five-time champions Mumbai Indians are right behind. Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders crossed the 200-run mark three times each. Batting first at home, Gujarat Titans scored 199 runs for the loss of four wickets. Punjab Kings who batted in reply scored the winning run with just one ball left to end the game. Shashank Singh, who remained unbeaten with 61 runs in 29 balls including four sixes and six fours, and Ashutosh Sharma who scored 31 runs in 17 balls including one six and three fours, won Punjab in the game that was confirmed to be lost.

Shashank and Ashutosh scored 41 runs in the last three overs to bring the team to victory. Punjab’s target was seven runs when Gujarat skipper Shubman Gill entrusted death over specialist Darshan Aparhande to bowl the last over. Ashutosh Sharma, who lifted the first ball, made a mistake. A lofted ball to long on, safe in the hands of Rashid Khan. Harpreet Brar replaced him. The first ball Brar faced was wide. The next ball was dismissed as a wide. TV umpire’s wide denial is a hope for Gujarat. Single off the third ball. With that, Shashank became a striker. The player who put the bat on the length ball did not make a mistake. The ball crossed the boundary. With that, the score is even. With a leg bye on the fifth ball, Punjab got the win. The Titans’ review for L.B. was also wasted.

Till the 17th over, Punjab’s chance of winning was only 9%. Shashank went on after surviving LB off Noor Ahmed with the individual score at one. Ashutosh Sharma, who is playing his maiden match in the IPL, also remembers his debut. The player hit three fours in the 18th over bowled by Azmatullah Omarzai. Ashutosh hit the first ball of the 19th over bowled by Mohit Sharma for a six. Ashutosh is a player who has played only 15 Twenty20 matches in his career so far. Shashank Singh was the player bought by Punjab Kings in the mini star auction held in December.

Targeting 19-year-old Shashank, Punjab bought 32-year-old Shashank Singh. Punjab realized the mistake and approached the auctioneer Mallika Sagar, but the process was over. It was clear that they had made a mistake, even though they had made it clear that they had bought this same Shashank. After acquiring Ashutosh Sharma and Vishwanath Pratap Singh, they went for Bengali star Shashank Singh. No one else was interested in the star whose base price was 20 lakhs. It was only later that the Punjab authorities realized that it was Shashank Singh, a resident of Chhattisgarh.

Shashank’s performance against Gujarat Titans proved that he was lucky and not a mistake. Shashank Singh, who is a batting all-rounder, is also an off-spinner. He took 815 runs and 15 wickets in 59 T20s. He scored 815 runs at an average of 22.02 including six fifties.

He played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2022 season, Rajasthan Royals in 2019–21 season and Delhi Daredevils in 2017 season. The ninth innings of the IPL was played on Thursday evening. Shashank reached the crease when Punjab were sweating 70 runs for four in nine overs. Their pass percentage was 4.77%. Apart from Chhattisgarh, Mumbai and Puducherry were also represented at the domestic level.

No one clapped

Ahmedabad: IPL against Gujarat Titans Shashank Singh, who led Punjab Kings to victory in the cricket match, faced neglect. He was praised when he led the team to victory but was not accepted when he was at the crease.

When Shashank scored his half-century, none of his teammates celebrated. A video of Shashank being ignored by his teammates while raising his bat has gone viral. The Punjab players were disappointed to lose the match.
