(CNN)Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday that the attack on a Moscow concert hall, which occurred on Friday, was carried out by “radical Islamists.”

Putin added, in a video meeting with officials from the government and security services: “We know that the crime was committed by extremist Islamists, whose ideology the Islamic world itself has been fighting for centuries.”

He continued: “We also see that the United States is trying through various channels to convince everyone, according to their intelligence data, that there is supposedly no role for Kiev in the Moscow terrorist attack, and that the bloody terrorist attack was carried out by members of the ISIS organization banned in Russia.”

Putin once again stated that Ukraine was responsible for the attack, and said: “It is necessary to answer the question why terrorists tried to go to Ukraine after committing a crime, and who was waiting for them there? It is clear that those who support the Kiev regime do not want to be partners and sponsors of terrorism.” “For terrorism, but there are already a lot of questions.”

He continued: “We know by whom these atrocities were committed against Russia and its people, and we are interested in knowing who the instigator is.”
It is noteworthy that ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack and released video footage of it, but the Kremlin claimed, without evidence, that the perpetrators planned to flee to Ukraine.

On the other hand, Kiev strongly denied its involvement and described the Kremlin’s allegations as “ridiculous.”
