Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on retaliatory visa measures for citizens of unfriendly countries. Document published on the Legal Information Portal website.

According to the document, the Russian Federation suspends certain points of visa facilitation agreements with the European Union, as well as Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The text of the decree on visas refers to the abolition of the simplified procedure for obtaining visas by members of official delegations, diplomats and journalists.

The head of state also instructed the Russian Foreign Ministry to introduce personal restrictions on entry into the country for foreigners and stateless persons who commit unfriendly actions.

The decree was signed in connection with the need to take “urgent measures in response to unfriendly actions” of the EU.

On Monday, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki proposed blocking the issuance of Schengen visas to Russians. An exception, as he noted, should be humanitarian visas. Also, in his opinion, it is worth issuing visas only to those Russian citizens who want to leave the country.
