(CNN) Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a presidential decree directing retaliatory measures once morest the seizure of assets held abroad by Russia.

It was reported by the Russian state-run TASS news agency and published on the official website of the president’s office.

The decree stipulates that Russia will temporarily take control of foreign assets in the country if those assets are seized by a “hostile country.”

It also stipulates that this temporary control can only be lifted at the discretion of the President.

The assets of the Russian unit of German energy giant Uniper have already been placed under temporary control by the Russian government, according to TASS.
