quartier21: Inexpensive housing for Brunn/Gebirge on rail

The developers welcome the local council’s decision to build attractive living space and a colorful, complementary mix of uses in Brunn am Gebirge.

Vienna (OTS) – The attractive “quartier21” is being built on the former industrial site of the Brunner Glasfabrik, which has been fallow since its closure in 2004 and was decontaminated with high investments and freed from industrial waste and decades of soil contamination – the corresponding zoning plan was approved at the local council meeting on December 14, 2023 . “Our vision for quartier21 was always to create an open and livable district from which the Brunner population in particular benefits. We are very pleased that the planned mix of subsidized and privately financed residential units and a spacious green area can now finally be implemented!”says Christine Dornaus, CEO of the majority owner Wiener Städtische Versicherung.

The concept provides for a total of 580 apartments, half of which will be built by the non-profit developers Neue Heimat GEWOG (nhg) and Erste non-profit housing company (EGW). In the first construction phase until the end of 2025, around 100 residential units with an average size of 72 square meters will be built. Dornaus: “It is particularly difficult for young families to find affordable living space in the middle of town. As one of the largest real estate investors in the country, it is important to us to meet this demand with our project for ‘quartier21’. We attach particular importance to sustainable construction.” The residential buildings will be supplied with heat using geothermal energy, and green roofs and photovoltaic systems are also planned for all residential buildings. In addition to the living space, a 5,000 square meter publicly accessible park as well as alternative uses such as municipal facilities and local suppliers will be created over the next few years.
