Ore Quebec will donate half a million dollars over 10 years to the Innu Nikamu festival. The historic announcement was made this Saturday evening during a grand Makusham orchestrated by the Maten group at the heart of the event. All members of the executive of the company and their families are gathered in Maliotenam on occasion.

“Our commitment is part of MFQ’s desire to promote the language and culture of our Innu partners in a concrete way,” explains MFQ CEO David Cataford. The mining company becomes a Mamu Nikamutau Partner (Let’s sing together).

Long term support

The company that operates the Bloom Lake iron mine wants to ensure the sustainability of one of the most important Aboriginal cultural gatherings in North America. Secured long-term funding will help the organization plan future programming in advance,” believes Davis Cataford.

Festival coordinator Normand Jr Thirnish is extremely grateful for MFQ’s involvement. “This is an unprecedented contribution in the history of Innu Nikamu”.

The investment is also appreciated by the many musicians and artists who participate in the event. “It’s touching to see that people believe in us, that Aboriginal culture also deserves to be supported,” notes Mathieu Mckenzie, of the independent record label Makusham Musique.

Québec Iron Ore joins other major partners of the Festival Innu Nikamu, such as Sept-Îles Toyota, ITUM, CKAU and Pêcheries UAPAN.

A large Makusham and a tribute to the founder of Innu Nikamu in his presence followed just before impressive fireworks. Several star surprise guests took to the stage at the invitation of the Maten group for this penultimate day of the festival, including Zacharie Richard, Florent Vollant, Shauit and Émile Bilodeau.
