Quebecer Kim Clavel becomes world champion

The wait will have been long, but Kim Clavel can now claim victory. The Quebec boxer won the WBC light flyweight title on Saturday at the Casino de Montreal, defeating the Mexican Yesenia Gomez by unanimous decision of the judges.

At the end of the 10 regulatory rounds, the pugilists had not been able to decide a winner on their own, so they had to rely on the three judges. The cards of the latter showed scores of 100-90, 99-91 and 99-91, all in favor of Clavel (16-0, 3 KOs).

In her fight of the day, the crowd favorite imposed her rhythm from the first moments of the confrontation and Gomez (19-6-3, 6 KOs) was never able to turn the tide .

Clavel is only the second Quebecer in history to become world champion, following Marie-Ève ​​Dicaire.
