Princess Diana’s dress up for auction Up for auction is a purple silk dress worn by Diana, Princess of Wales, in an official portrait in 1991. The auction will be held in New York on January 27. It is expected that around Rs.1 crore can be collected from the auction.

In 1997, the princess donated 19 dresses to a Christie’s charity auction. This was one of the dresses that were auctioned that day. A purple colored silk dress fetched Rs 19 lakh that day. The dress, designed by Victor Edelstein in 1989, is currently up for auction.

Sotheby’s, the auctioneer, stated that the dress is of excellent quality. In 1991, Douglas Anderson painted a portrait of Diana wearing the same dress. In 1988, the dress became part of the Franklin Mint’s limited edition Diana doll. It was one of the 1000 best dressed dolls.

Apart from Diana’s dress, other notable items will be part of the auction on the 27th. The most important of these are a ticket to a function related to the birthday of former US President John F. Kennedy and a jersey worn by LeBron James in the 2013 NBA Finals.

Meanwhile, a pendant with a crucifix worn by Princess Diana on more than one occasion is also up for sale as part of the auction. The pendant was designed by Gerard, a jeweler in the 20th century.
