“Annabel” was too modern for her
Queen had her grandchild’s name changed
The Royals must inform the Queen of their choice of name, according to tradition. Otherwise, Prince Andrew’s daughter would have had a completely different name.
Princess Beatrice (34) was born as the first daughter of Prince Andrew (62) and Sarah Ferguson (62) on August 8, 1988 in London – the fifth grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II (96). A full two weeks after her birth, however, it was only announced what the name of the princess was. The reason: your grandmother did not like the name.
As “The Sun” now reveals, Her Majesty had her fingers in the naming of the princess. Ferguson actually wanted to name her daughter “Annabel”. He was too “modern” for the Queen. So they forced a name change.
Die Tradition will es so
The monarch traditionally approves the royals’ choice of name. At the time, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson had Her Majesty make sure that she approved of her choice of name. And apparently she wasn’t, much to the disappointment of Sarah Ferguson, who had wanted “Annabel” very much.
So the Queen made a counter-proposal to the couple: “Beatrice Elizabeth Mary”, the name of the youngest daughter of the monarch’s great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria (1819-1901), the two middle names in homage to herself and the princess’s great-grandmother.
Princess Beatrice just celebrated her 34th birthday and gave birth to a daughter ten months ago with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi (38). Her name: «Sienna Elizabeth». (sod)
