The favorite son of the Quillón commune, Héctor “Rayo” Quintana, added a new award to his outstanding record by winning the Ascension to the Nevados de Chillán in a great competition.
On its 50th anniversary, the Ascension of the Nevados de Chillán brought together around 170 athletes from the country who traveled long distances through several communes in the Ñuble Region, once again positioning this Giro among the must-sees of the national cycling agenda.
“Rayo” had just won the Vuelta de Maule with his Plus Racing team where, together with Diego Rojas, who also had a great performance, they dominated a large part of the competition, but it was Quintana who managed to stay with the general classification and demonstrate the great present who lives in discipline.
The pedaler also recognized that he wanted to have a great competition at home and was able to achieve it by winning here for the first time and many stages including the two on Saturday.
That is if he constantly thanked his team, which has great pieces of national character that helped him in all stages to achieve the main objective. Now the “Rayo” will continue its calendar where it hopes to compete abroad again, as it already did during the 2023, where he even managed to compete in the World Championship of the discipline that was held in Scotland, where he had contact with the best cyclists in the world.
Mayor Camilo Benavente confirmed that this is a test that has been consolidated in the national circuit and in which runners from all latitudes come to participate, as it provides points for the national ranking.
This version came to the area with specialists with great national and international experience to climb towards the Ñuble mountain range, precisely to the Termas de Chillán mineral farm in the municipality.
Councilor Marina Crisóstomo, who was at the finish line, highlighted that “On the 50th anniversary we had a great competition where the runner from Quillón “Rayo” Quintana won.”
Quintana’s participation was so outstanding that he even won overall and in the under-23 category, highlighted the Municipal Sports Manager, Hernán Blasco.
