Railways’ Ticket Fare Reduction: No Benefit for Kerala Passengers

The Railways’ decision to reduce the basic ticket price by up to 25 percent in AC chair and executive classes, including New Delhi Vandebharat, will not benefit the passengers of Kerala. Exemption on trains with less than 50 percent passenger occupancy during 30 days. At no point, the number of passengers in Kerala trains, including Vandebharat, has never been so low. Vandebharat Express, which runs in Kerala, has reached the top in the number of passengers among the Vandebharat trains running in the country according to the Railways. Average occupancy rate for Kasaragod—Thiruvananthapuram service is 183 percent. As a part of attracting maximum number of passengers, the Railways is reducing the basic ticket fare by up to 25 percent. The concession is applicable on AC chair car and executive classes of all AC seating trains including Anubhuti and Vistadome coaches.
