Finally: After days of torrential rain, the sun returned in Emilia-Romagna on Sunday. The front with the heavy rain had shifted northwest on Friday and Saturday, to Lombardy and Piedmont. There, too, the rivers swelled menacingly, at Piacenza the water flow of the Po increased fivefold from 500 to 2500 cubic meters per second. However, the situation remained under control while the water slowly drained away in Emilia-Romagna. However, the authorities maintained the highest alert level: the risk of landslides remained very high in the hilly areas due to the water-saturated soil. In the Po Valley, the water was still several meters high, especially around Ravenna. This is because there, in the “Holland of Italy”, some areas are below sea level. Millions of cubic meters of water still have to be pumped out there.
