The fasting month of Ramadan is over for Muslims. This is celebrated on Wednesday with the start of Eid-al-Fitr, also known as Eid-al-Fitr, with treats, gifts and visits to family and friends. With the end of the Islamic fasting month, Muslims all over the world are allowed to eat, drink, have sex and smoke between sunrise and sunset again.

Both the start of Ramadan and Eid-al-Fitr fall at a different time every year. For Turkish Muslims it was already known that the fasting period would end on Tuesday and that Eid al-Fitr would start on Wednesday. Turkish scientists have previously used astronomical calculations to determine when the new crescent moon should be visible. The Moroccan community had to wait until the new moon was officially established in Saudi Arabia. That happened Tuesday evening.

Ramadan started on March 11. The exact beginning was also connected with the first crescent of the new moon becoming visible. The month of fasting also starts on a different day every year because the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar. Such a lunar year is about eleven days shorter than our Western calendar.
