You rarely see something like that in handball. Tie following 60 minutes, tie following 20 minutes of extra time – the winner in the semi-final duel of the Handball Liga Austria between the Fivers from Margareten and Krems had to be determined in a seven-meter throw.
And there, too, it went into overtime. The first ten throws brought no decision, only following the seventh shooter was the winner. And he came from the Wachau and can challenge HC Hard from Vorarlberg in the final series from Saturday.
One throw, two misses
The tragic figure of the evening was Fivers thrower Marc-Andre Haunold. The backcourt player was the top scorer of the game with 14 goals, but failed twice in a seven-meter throw at the Krems goalkeeper – once too many. “Don’t blame him,” said coach Peter Eckl, “we wouldn’t have stayed in the game without his goals.”
