The monarch, 75, wants to return Down Under with Queen Camilla in October.

Buckingham Palace sources said the 75-year-old monarch is feeling ‘positive’ and doctors are ‘optimistic’ after cancer diagnosis

His hope for an official visit to Australia in the autumn comes at a time when he is feeling well and his cancer treatment is well under way.

Charles is said to be feeling positively charged with plans for the two-week trip which will also take him to New Zealand and Samoa.

“King Charles plans to visit Australia and New Zealand in October 2024,” a diplomatic source, who has had contact with the king and spoke on condition of anonymity, told The Age.

Any royal visit would coincide with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa, the same source said.

CHOGM 2024 is expected to start on October 21 and the biennial meeting of 56 developed and developing countries includes Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand and Malaysia and usually lasts a week.

Buckingham Palace sources said the monarch was feeling “positive” and doctors were “optimistic” after being able to take a walk on Easter Sunday.

The Palace said “nothing is ruled out” and they remain “cautious”.

According to sources Charles is “keen to get on with the job” and “hit the ground running”, knowing his reign has been delayed by his diagnosis.

Charles and Camilla are likely to begin their traditional post-Easter break soon. But the King wants to be at Trooping the Color in June and the 80th anniversary of D-Day in France a week earlier.
