The number of real estate transactions fell in the first quarter, but prices remained broadly stable or slightly up. A return to normal, after two to three years of euphoria, believe the notaries.

Lhe number of real estate transactions is down sharply in the first quarter, compared to the corresponding quarter of 2022, according to the latest Barometer of notaries, unveiled this Friday morning. This fall in real estate activity, of 7.1% at the level of the country as a whole, is particularly marked in Flanders (-9.2%), and more moderate in Brussels (-5%) and Wallonia (- 3.5%) – but the Flemish “poor performance” reflects, to a large extent, an effect of communicating vessels, insofar as, last year, the rise had been markedly greater in the north than in the south of the country.
