Recent Drone Incidents in Egypt: President Al-Sisi’s Response and the Importance of Respecting Egypt’s Sovereignty

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi commented on the incidents of shooting down drones in the Egyptian regions of Taba and Nuweiba, on Friday.

Al-Sisi said in part of his speech during the opening of the annual international forum and exhibition for the industry, on Saturday: “Yesterday there were drones that entered and were shot down, regardless of where they were coming from. I warned before that expanding the scope of the conflict is not in the interest of the region, and the region is like this.” It will remain a time bomb that will harm us all.”

Al-Sisi continued: “That is why I say, please, Egypt is a sovereign state, and I hope that we all respect its sovereignty and status, and the word about it is not boasting or pretending. Egypt is a very strong country that cannot be touched. Egypt is a very strong country that cannot be touched..”

The Egyptian army spokesman had said in a blog post on his Facebook page, Friday: “Within the framework of following up on the results of the ongoing investigations by the competent committee into the two accidents of a foreign object falling in Nuweiba and a piloted drone in Taba…and by analyzing and collecting information, the results of the investigations resulted in (2) An unmanned aircraft was heading from the south of the Red Sea to the north, and one of them was targeted outside Egyptian airspace in the Gulf of Aqaba region, resulting in some of its debris falling in an uninhabited area in Nuweiba… in addition to the other falling in Taba.”
