A series of weak and moderate earthquakes shook the southern coasts of the Mediterranean, specifically in Egypt, Libya and Tunisia, according to what government bodies in these three countries reported.

An earthquake shakes two cities in Tunisia

The last earthquake recorded was the one that struck two coastal cities in Tunisia, and its magnitude reached 3.8 on the Richter scale.

The National Institute of Meteorology said that a 3.8-magnitude earthquake struck the coastal cities of Sousse and Monastir in Tunisia on Wednesday.

An earthquake hits Egypt

In Egypt, the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research announced today, Wednesday, an earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale.

The institute reported in a statement that the stations of the National Seismic Monitoring Network recorded an earthquake 265 kilometers northwest of Marsa Matrouh Governorate in northwestern Egypt.

He added that the earthquake occurred at 04:33 local time (01:33 GMT), and was felt by residents of most governorates.

The institute explained that it had not received any information about feeling the tremor, or about loss of life or property.

Earthquake in northern Libya

To the west of Egypt, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center recorded, on Wednesday, an earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale in an area in the Mediterranean Sea, about 70 kilometers from the city of Tobruk in northeastern Libya.

The center said on its website that the earthquake, which was recorded at 03:33 a.m. Libya time, was 69 kilometers northeast of the coast of Tobruk, and at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The earthquake was recorded at dawn today, Wednesday, Libya time, and its epicenter was 281 kilometers away from the Egyptian city of Marsa Matrouh, according to the center’s estimates published on its website.
