Several users have seen the SAAQ deduct an excess amount from their bank accounts in recent months. One of them even had the unpleasant surprise of having nearly $6,000 withdrawn by mistake.

Last February, Martin Vincent handed his credit card to the Tesla dealership to pay for the registration and transfer of his new car. The transaction was postponed for two weeks due to the closure of the SAAQ offices to implement the SAAQclic system. Amount required: approximately $70.

“A week and a half later, I look at my bank account, I have $5,924 taken by the SAAQ,” says Mr. Vincent in an interview. He therefore quickly contacted his bank to cancel the payment.

“Two months later, I received an email from the SAAQ to tell me that I still owe them $5,924 and that I have to pay,” he continues.

After several attempts, an agent explained to him on the phone that it was the QST, which he had already paid at the dealership.

Martin Vincent informs the employee that he does not intend to pay this amount already paid. “I went to my SAAQclic account every week and then, at some point, it disappeared,” he says.

But another pitfall awaited him: due to an error by an attendant in another transaction, his motorcycle license expired. He has been trying to correct the situation since May, without success. “I lost my summer completely,” he laments.

Other cases

Several readers contacted The Journal after our report, published Tuesday, on the setbacks experienced by SAAQ users. Minister Éric Caire has also recognized that the problems continue for the SAAQclic platform. “Indeed, there are still problems,” he told Salon Bleu.

Usually, Gaétan Therrien pays the registration of his 10-wheel truck monthly. It must be said that the $1,200 bill this year was rather hefty. “But there, they took it all at once,” he remarked last June.

Forced to store his truck three weeks later, he had to wait three months to be reimbursed for the amount ultimately overpaid, he confides.

Another reader, who wishes to remain anonymous, explains that he was mistakenly charged an additional $450 when paying taxes on his new motorcycle. After numerous steps, and two months of waiting, he finally got a refund by going to the branch. We will finally reimburse him… $654!

“The SAAQ owed me money from another transaction and I didn’t know it! », he explains, still surprised.

Situations corrected

At the SAAQ, a spokesperson recognizes that Mr. Vincent’s situation “is one of the February problems during transactions at the dealership.” “These situations have been corrected,” assures Gino Desrosiers.

“As mentioned in August, regarding the return to normal, there remain situations which have been identified and which will be resolved over the coming weeks. The files of affected customers will then be rectified,” he promises.
