Shooting in Chicago

In another incident, US authorities said that at least 20 people were shot and died early Sunday during a gathering in a Chicago suburban parking lot.

Television news footage showed a debris-strewn mall parking lot and police tape in Willowbrook, about 20 miles (32.1 kilometers) southwest of Chicago.

The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office told television stations at the scene that one person was killed and at least 19 others were injured.

Witness Markisia Avery told CNN "WLS-TV": "It was supposed to be like a Juneteenth celebration. We started to hear gunfire, so we went down and took cover until they stopped".

Another witness, Craig Lutsey, said: "Everyone ran and it was a complete mess".
