Record-breaking Heat Wave Sweeps Belgium: Hottest September 6 in History

2023-09-06 18:56:00

With 30.1 degrees, Wednesday became the hottest September 6 in Belgium, meteorologist David Dehenauw said on X, formerly Twitter. A heat wave might still be declared this week.

The previous hottest September 6 dates back to 1899 when it was up to 28.6 degrees in Belgium.

We can officially speak of a heat wave when the temperature exceeds 25 degrees for five consecutive days, including three days above 30. As the mercury has crossed 30 degrees in the last two days, this scenario is still possible. The IRM also predicts tropical temperatures for the next few days.

The country is coded yellow for heat, with the exception of the province of Luxembourg and the Coast. This warning applies at least until Monday inclusive. Afterwards, stormy showers and a dip in temperatures are expected.
