program variety

34 performances of five scenic and three concert productions were on the program in the opera, 86 performances in concert. Of these, 14 concerts were in the “Ouverture Spiritualuelle” series, which this year was entitled “Lux aeterna”. The Salzburg Festival dedicated a large-scale concert series to György Ligeti. In addition to the concert area, the most extensive program part of the festival, the concert director Florian Wiegand was also responsible for the worldwide resonance: 14 TV and streaming productions, 21 radio recordings and two radio play versions ensured media coverage of the festival. Three new opera productions and 9 concerts were audiovisually recorded for television and streaming. Through the partners of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the radio transmissions and the audiovisual broadcasts also reached an audience of millions.

Last season for Bettina Hering in Salzburg

Head of acting Bettina Hering also delivered a packed final program in her seventh and final season. In addition to four scenic new productions and “Jedermann”, the readings she conceived, the drama research, the dance performance “Into the Hairy” and the film series were well received by the public and critics. Education Manager Ursula Gessat brought a new production, a German-language premiere and a premiere commissioned by the Salzburg Festival to the stage of the Schauspielhaus in the youth program “jung&jede*r”, which has been firmly established since 2020.
