In relation to the calendar year 2023, turnover growth is prevalent among companies compared to 2022, with indicators showing a closing with a plus sign for the Italian nautical industry as a whole. And if, for the superyacht sector, the situation remains positive, for the shipyards of units under 24 metres, 84% of the sample expects an improvement in revenues or a closure in line with the previous year. In the accessories and engines sector, 8 out of 10 companies confirm a positive or stable 2023 final result.

In 2024 the big ones will do well, the small ones less so

As mentioned, the forecast for 2024 is different, as the growth of the sector is expected to normalize after a long period of very strong development. According to estimates, this year the Italian superyacht industry will confirm itself as a global leader, growing, however, at a more moderate pace compared to the three-year period just concluded. The positive results are highlighted by the multi-year extension of orderbooks, with 2 out of 3 companies recording an increase in order books compared to 12 months ago.

However, as regards the small boating market, a contraction is expected in 2024 in some product segments and in some geographical areas, largely determined by economic factors external to the market, such as the increase in interest rates and access to credit, growing international geopolitical tensions and the wait for the results of the elections that will lead to new government structures in Europe and the USA.

On this basis, 2024 appears to be a structured year, with turnover forecasts growing for 32%, stable for 32% and decreasing for 36% of the sample (companies registered with Confindustria nautica); and with an order book that, at present, is growing or stable compared to 12 months ago for 44% of the companies interviewed.

Accessories and engines

As far as the accessories and engines sector is concerned, 2024 is perceived as a year of transition: 82% expect a closing growth or in line with the previous year; the current order book also indicates an increase or stability for 65% of the sample. The prospects for 2024 for charter companies are good: all the companies interviewed declare that the year will be even better than the previous one.
