As PSV announced on Monday evening, the attacker will travel to England “immediately”. There he should complete the necessary formalities for the change.
The club did not give any details about the transfer fee for Gakpo, who was originally tied to Eindhoven until 2026. PSV managing director Marcel Brands (60) spoke in the club’s announcement of a “record transfer” for Eindhoven. “The Athletic” assumes a transfer fee of 40 to 50 million euros.
Gakpo had previously been linked with Liverpool rivals Manchester United. Leeds United and Southampton FC are also said to have tried to sign Gakpo in August. But the Dutchman clearly wanted to play for a club that is represented in the Champions League – Liverpool is the right choice for that (meet Real Madrid in the Round of 16).
In the quarter-finals of the World Cup it was over for Holland against Argentina. But for Cody Gakpo the tournament had a happy ending and a new club ready!
