The Rajko Mitic Stadium, which also goes by the name Marakan, is feared. Tens of thousands of fans whip their team forward. And while in Western Europe most fan groups are apolitical, in fan curves in Southeastern Europe political slogans are displayed in chants and choreographies. Fan groups in Southeastern Europe often identify with nationalist positions – this is also the case with Red Star Belgrade.

The club’s hooligans do not tolerate dissenting expressions of opinion. The positions are sometimes imposed on people and, if necessary, by force. Choreographies from Red Star are also something to talk about again and again. This summer, for example, when the Delije, the organized fans, presented a huge banner. You can see it: a tank and below it the sentence: “When the army returns to Kosovo.”

The fans also recently made headlines. When three Serbian extremists were shot dead in Kosovo after a deadly attack on police there, Red Star fans dressed mostly in black marched through Belgrade. The club itself describes the whole thing as a “tragedy that happened to honorable and honest families in the southern Serbian province”. Each family should receive the equivalent of around 9,700 francs.
