Reels: Meta deploys heavy artillery to try to compete with TikTok

The parent company of Facebook has just announced the arrival of new tools allowing content creators to more easily create and manage Reels in Facebook and Instagram.

Meta is pulling out all the stops to try to compete with TikTok. And to get there, Facebook’s parent company wants to deploy major means. It has just announced the deployment in the coming weeks of new tools and new functionalities thanks to which content creators will be able to edit and publish Reels more easily, these competing TikTok short videoson Facebook and Instagram.

Tools for Facebook Reels on Desktop

Until now, posting Reels short videos on Facebook was mostly done on iOS and Android mobile apps. In the coming weeks, it will be possible to create, modify, publish and schedule the sending of Reels on Facebook from the Web Desktop version of Facebook, from Creator Studio, the content management interface dedicated to creators.

To complete its artillery, Meta will integrate a video editing module from which long videos can be cut into several clips and thus transformed into Reels. Content creators specializing in broadcasting live gaming events will be able to generate Reels on the fly in their live content. Facebook’s parent company also announced the arrival of new audio tools for Reels. It will now be possible to integrate voice-over comments, to use voice synthesis to transform written comments into audio narration, or to synchronize the content of a video with the music used in the soundtrack.

To ensure the satisfaction of influencers publishing Reels on its platform, Meta has also planned to integrate the audience statistics generated by these short videos into the Creator Studio.

Longer Reels on Instagram

Whereas TikTok extended the minimum length of videos published on its platform a few weeks ago to around ten minutes, Meta indicates that it is extending the length of Reels videos to 90 seconds on Instagram, after having already doubled their duration last summer.

Short videos published on Instagram can now be enriched with additional content, Meta having decided to deploy Instagram story stickers on Reels.

In addition, you can now import your own audio tracks to add your voiceover commentary or integrate a particular sound design in the Reels you publish on Instagram. And if however you lack ideas, you can always draw inspiration from the Reels you watch by duplicating their structure. Meta thus provides a “Use template” function that will allow you to extract the audio and the clip from the source video to integrate your own content.
