Six of the nine most recent referendums have passed the hurdle of 100,000 supporters, at which point parliamentary treatment is necessary. However, none of the initiatives was particularly successful, the one with the name “Food rescue instead of food waste” doing the best, which persuaded almost 204,000 people to support it. This was followed by “Immediately deport asylum offenders” with a good 197,000 supporters.

The anti-gender referendum was worth a declaration of support from more than 154,000 people. Just behind comes “Implementation of food origin labeling” with almost 150,000 signatures. Almost 117,000 declared themselves “Austrian neutrality: Yes”. “Investigation committees broadcast live” just passed the 100,000 mark with almost 103,000 supporters.

Three referendums have failed. The “Citizenship for Torture Victims” initiative was particularly unsuccessful with 26,829 signatures, which is the historically lowest figure for a referendum. “Ban for children’s Instagram” also clearly failed with a good 69,000 and “Rescue our savings accounts” with not even 71,000 signatures.
