Rejuvenation for the Maria Trost Way of the Cross

“The images of the Way of the Cross have given comfort to many people, and we want to preserve this living sign of faith for our grandchildren,” says Pastor Alfred Höfler. The stations were set up a few decades ago, but no one knows exactly when. Exposed to wind and weather, the paintings have suffered so much that it was time to restore them.

Stations and pictures renewed

Josef Kaineder, initiator of this refurbishment and organist on the mountain, knows that many Rohrbach-Bergers, but also pilgrims, look forward to seeing the pictures shine in new splendor: “It is particularly nice to see and experience when children are with us stop by their parents and talk about the pictures.” The pictures were painted by Josef Keinberger, the artist who is still well-known today. The stations will be restored by the “Schmied z’Kirchbach” and the pictures by the restorer Stefanie Stolzlechner.

You can see from the “before” and “after” pictures that the “complete renovation” really makes sense. The photo shows Lydia Ettmayer, the daughter of Josef Keinberger, who is of course very happy that this work is now being carried out, handing over the pictures to Stefanie Stolzlechner. It is planned that the Stations of the Cross to the Maria Trost pilgrimage church will shine again in new splendor and will be re-erected in late summer or autumn at the latest. The employees from the Rohrbach-Berg building yard also got involved and made suggestions for cost-effective renovation of the damaged stone pillars and organized the transport to and from them.

Since it is important to some people to make a contribution to the restoration, this is of course possible. You can contact the parish office in Rohrbach in this regard. But talented citizens are also invited to contact the parish in person: there is almost always renovation work to be done. In any case, the organizers are already looking forward to a prayer service on the occasion of the renewal of the Way of the Cross.

Guided tours in the Bergerkirche
